DJI Avata 360 Enters the 8K FPV Arena — Insta360 Has Competition

DJI Avata 360 Goes All-In on Immersive Flight with 8K FPV and 360 Capture

DJI is stepping deeper into the immersive content space with the launch of the Avata 360 — a compact drone built for creators who want full control over every angle. Positioned as a direct rival to the Insta360 Antigravity A1, this new model blends FPV flying with 360-degree capture, aiming to deliver a more flexible shooting experience in the air.

At its core, the Avata 360 is designed to shoot 8K 360° video and capture 120MP still images, putting it firmly in high-end territory. And true to DJI’s ecosystem, it doesn’t come stripped down — you still get essentials like obstacle detection, subject tracking, and support for the brand’s existing accessories.

Dual-Lens System, Smarter Than It Sounds

Like most 360 cameras, the drone relies on a dual-lens setup to create its all-around view. DJI mentions “1-inch equivalent sensors,” but that doesn’t mean each lens gets a full 1-inch sensor.

Instead, the combined sensor area matches that size — similar to what we’ve seen on the Osmo 360 action camera. Each sensor works together to build a complete image, rather than operating independently at that level.

Still, the hardware is no joke. With 2.4μm pixel size, the Avata 360 is capable of pulling in solid detail, whether you’re snapping high-resolution stills or recording immersive footage.

For video:

  • 8K at 60fps in full 360 mode
  • 4K at 60fps using a single lens

And of course, you can reframe your shots after recording, which is one of the biggest advantages of shooting in 360.

Classic DJI Features, Now in a 360 Drone

Outside of its 360 capabilities, the Avata 360 feels very much like a DJI product.

It runs on the O4+ transmission system, delivering smooth 1080p 60fps live feed with a range that can stretch up to 20km. That’s more than enough for serious FPV flying.

Safety and usability also get attention:

  • Omnidirectional obstacle sensing, even in low light
  • Built-in propeller guards for safer flights
  • Multiple tracking modes for dynamic shots

A nice bonus — the lenses are user-replaceable, so you don’t have to panic over minor crashes, as long as you have the proper repair kit.

Lightweight Build, Solid Endurance

Despite packing quite a bit of tech, the drone stays relatively compact and portable.

  • Weight: ~455g
  • Flight time: up to 23 minutes
  • Internal storage: 42GB
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6 for fast file transfers

It’s clearly designed for creators who want something powerful, but still easy to carry around.

Availability and Pricing

The Avata 360 is already on sale in China, while other markets are currently in the pre-order phase, with shipments expected to begin around April.

Pricing falls between RM1699 and RM1999, making it a relatively accessible option considering its feature set.

One thing to note — like some previous DJI releases, it won’t be officially sold in the United States.

Final Take

The Avata 360 feels like DJI experimenting in a space that’s quickly gaining traction — combining FPV flying with 360 content creation.

If you’re into immersive video, action shots, or just want more creative freedom in editing, this could be one of the more interesting drones to watch right now.

The real question is — can it actually shake up Insta360’s dominance in this niche?
