The Honda Civic Type R<\/strong> is getting its first major update since the current-generation model was introduced, with the revised 2027 model<\/strong> making its debut in North America before rolling out to other markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Honda has kept the visual changes relatively restrained, the latest Type R receives several mechanical and interior upgrades aimed at making it more precise on the road while improving everyday comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n

Subtle Exterior Changes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, the updated Civic Type R remains largely familiar. Look closer, however, and the front end reveals several aerodynamic changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front bumper now features a deeper front splitter designed to increase downforce<\/strong>, while the lower grille opening has been widened to improve airflow and reduce turbulence around the engine bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honda has also introduced a redesigned engine cover inspired by earlier Type R models sold in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new Meteorite Gray Metallic<\/strong> exterior colour joins the existing palette, which includes Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and the iconic Championship White.<\/p>\n\n\n

More Refined Driving Dynamics<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The bigger changes are found underneath the bodywork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honda has revised the suspension damping, particularly in +R mode<\/strong>, with the aim of improving high-speed stability without making the ride unnecessarily harsh when the car encounters rough or uneven roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rev-matching system has also been recalibrated to deliver quicker downshifts<\/strong>, while a revised brake-pedal yoke spring reduces unwanted pedal movement and provides a firmer, more immediate braking feel.<\/p>\n\n\n

Despite these changes, the powertrain remains familiar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Type R continues to use a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 319 hp and 420 Nm<\/strong>, sending power exclusively through a six-speed manual transmission<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A More Comfortable Type R Cabin<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Honda has also paid more attention to the Type R’s interior, particularly for drivers who use the car on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signature red sport seats now feature three-stage heating<\/strong>, while their suede-like upholstery receives a revised perforated design with black detailing.<\/p>\n\n\n

Other cabin updates include diamond-pattern trim, black ventilation controls and an Ultrasuede dashboard<\/strong> designed to help reduce reflections on the windscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aluminium shift knob has also been given a darker grey finish, while an auto-dimming rear-view mirror<\/strong> has been added for improved convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google Built-In and More Connectivity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The infotainment system has also been upgraded with Google built-in<\/strong>, bringing access to services including Google Maps, Google Play and Google Gemini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connectivity has been expanded with two additional USB-C ports<\/strong>, positioned above the wireless charging pad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a car primarily designed around driving enjoyment, these may not be the most important upgrades, but they make the Civic Type R easier to live with as an everyday performance car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honda Sensing Gets Smarter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Honda has also revised the Civic Type R’s driver-assistance systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)<\/strong> has been improved to better recognise motorcycles and cyclists, while the Adaptive Cruise Control system has been tuned for smoother acceleration and braking.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Lane Keeping Assist<\/strong> system has also been updated to better handle changes in road camber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another addition is a post-collision braking system<\/strong>, which is designed to reduce the risk of secondary impacts following an initial collision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the horn receives a small upgrade, switching to a dual-tone setup<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Overall, the 2027 Civic Type R remains mechanically familiar, but Honda has focused its update on areas that matter both on a spirited drive and during everyday use \u2014 sharper chassis behaviour, improved pedal and transmission response, a more comfortable cabin and updated technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
