Perodua QV-E Debuts: Malaysia\u2019s First Homegrown EV Starts a New Chapter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Perodua has officially entered the EV game \u2014 and this time, it\u2019s not a rebadge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has unveiled the QV-E<\/strong>, its very first battery-electric vehicle and what it calls Malaysia\u2019s first truly homegrown EV, marking a major turning point for the national carmaker and the country\u2019s wider EV ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priced from RM80,000<\/strong> (excluding battery and insurance), the QV-E introduces a different ownership model compared to most EVs on the market. Instead of buying the battery outright, owners will lease it under Perodua\u2019s new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS)<\/strong> programme \u2014 a move designed to lower upfront costs and remove long-term battery replacement worries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch is more than just another new car reveal. It\u2019s Perodua\u2019s first fully developed EV under Malaysia\u2019s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030)<\/strong>, where the company was appointed to help lead local EV ecosystem development.<\/p>\n\n\n

Built in Malaysia, Built for Malaysia<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The QV-E \u2014 short for Quest for Visionary Electric Vehicle<\/strong> \u2014 took around RM800 million<\/strong> to develop and was completed in just 28 months<\/strong>, making it one of Perodua\u2019s biggest engineering projects to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production takes place at Perodua\u2019s new Smart Mobility Plant<\/strong>, with initial output set at 500 units monthly<\/strong>, before ramping up to 3,000 units per month by Q3 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes this project bigger than the car itself is localisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perodua says over 52 local companies<\/strong> are already supplying parts for the QV-E, with local content expected to hit 50% by 2026<\/strong> and climb to 70% by 2030<\/strong> \u2014 a major boost for Malaysia\u2019s automotive supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n

Not Just Affordable \u2014 Surprisingly Capable<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Under the floor sits a 52.5kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery<\/strong>, offering a claimed range of up to 445km (NEDC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real-world estimates place that closer to around 350km to 380km WLTP-equivalent<\/strong>, which still puts it in a competitive position for daily city driving and interstate travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 204PS and 285Nm<\/strong>, making it the most powerful Perodua ever built. The 0\u2013100km\/h sprint takes about 7.5 seconds<\/strong>, with top speed rated at 165km\/h<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s a big jump from Perodua\u2019s usual economy-focused image.<\/p>\n\n\n

Safety Gets a Big Upgrade<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One standout feature is the new Child Presence Detection (CPD)<\/strong> system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike standard rear-seat reminder systems, QV-E\u2019s CPD can actually detect movement and breathing patterns inside the rear cabin \u2014 even if a child or pet is covered under fabric \u2014 before alerting the driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s a rare feature even in higher-end vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The car is also expected to come with Perodua\u2019s latest ADAS package, digital connectivity features, wireless smartphone integration, and over-the-air software capability, although the full spec sheet is being released in stages.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Battery Leasing Bet<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Perodua\u2019s biggest gamble here isn\u2019t the car \u2014 it\u2019s the battery business model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of bundling battery cost into the vehicle price, buyers lease it separately. Reports suggest the battery plan sits around RM275 monthly over 9 years<\/strong>, while Perodua retains battery ownership and offers a lifetime battery warranty<\/strong>, including replacement if battery health drops below a certain threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a bold move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For buyers, that means lower entry cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Perodua, it means tighter battery quality control and better second-hand value management.<\/p>\n\n\n
